Research Engineer
Context
SpeechBrain, through the Laboratoire Informatique d'Avignon (LIA) from the university of Avignon (France) and HuggingFace, are partnering to advance the state-of-the-art of deep learning for open speech technologies and democratize its access.
About the role
As a research engineer within the LIA and the SpeechBrain team, your involvement will range from engineering and open-source community management to developing new speech technologies in line with HuggingFace and SpeechBrain shared goals. First, you will be in charge of helping the current core-team of developers and researchers to answer and solve the different needs of the international SpeechBrain community. Then, part of your mission will be directed toward a closer integration of HuggingFace resources (API, models, Hub) to SpeechBrain and vice-versa to encourage new research directions and democratize speech technologies. Finally, you will be integrated to a shared research project aiming at combining large-scale pretrained language models from HuggingFace to existing speech pipelines in SpeechBrain, hence potentially advancing the existing state-of-the-art.
About you
This position would be a perfect match for you if you are passionate about speech technologies and simplifying its access to the community. You should have experience with the research environment and a strong background in deep learning for speech technologies and in software engineering. You must be proficient in PyTorch and a first interaction with HuggingFace resources and open-source projects are a plus.
About the lab
While the position accepts remote applicants (as long as you are in France), we encourage you to join us in person in the Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon. The LIA is a well-known and established French computer science laboratory attached to the University of Avignon located in the south of France (enjoy our warm climate!). You will be integrated to the vibrant speech & language team composed of prof., assoc. prof., post-docs, PhD candidates and grad. Students.

Its integration to HuggingFace enables easy deployment and inference of pre-trained speech pipeline as well as the development of new methods with the HuggingFace transformers library.
Position details
