WHO ARE YOU?
You’re the Sherlock Holmes of speech technology — part detective, part computer scientist, part empath. Driven to discover the answers hidden in the data. Eager to invent the test that reveals the truth. Able to walk in our users’ shoes to understand their experiences “talking to Talkler.” Resourceful, entrepreneurial and independent. Articulate and energized. A natural curiosity for invention and UX.
THE POSITION
We’re seeking candidates for immediate openings! 15-20 hours per week, 50% onsite in Belmont, 50% working remotely. You’ll report directly to the CEO, and work closely with the CTO, VP of Tech Strategy and our beta users across the country.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview beta users for their first-hand reports of “talking to Talkler” — to discover where Talkler understands and where Talkler is tone deaf.
- Interact directly with beta users to gather recorded audio of grammar trials involving command-and-control ASR.
- Process audio recordings via ASR testing applications, comparing actual utterances vs. what the technology heard.
- Design and conduct grammar tests in collaboration with our speech scientist, to uncover design improvement opportunities.
- Analyze primary data from our beta users, to discover underlying trends and problem areas.
- Collaborate with VP of Tech Strategy and CTO to manage our beta users across the country.
- Make recommendations to the team for changes to the app’s UX + grammars, based on your tests.
- Take the reins for “special projects,” such as designing and testing new approaches to interacting with Talkler via voice.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in a Bachelors/Masters Computer Science program at an accredited college or university. Ideally enrolled in a program with Computational Linguistics or Speech Technology focus.
- 19 years or older and have Sophomore standing or above.
- Able to commit to a work schedule of 2-4 days per week, for a minimum 15 hours per week.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Able to coordinate multiple work streams for on-time project delivery.
- Able to shift easily from project to project in a fast-paced work environment.
- Eager to learn and absorb at a fast pace.
- Strong math and statistics skills.
- Strong grounding in computer science, computational linguistics, and speech technology.
- Some experience with software projects — designing, building, testing.
- Ideally able to write simple code (HTML, CSS, etc.), to help build certain special projects.
